Differences between Chinese mugwort (Qi mugwort) and others

Moxa is made from mugwort. However, mugwort is a common name for several species of aromatic plants in the genus Artemisia. In Europe, this word refers to the species Artemisia vulgaris. In China, it refers to Artemisia argyi. It is a type of Chinese mugwort. (Chinese character: 艾草,Pinyin: àicǎo) While there are several types of mugwort in China, they contain different ingredients. There is a type of mugwort can be used as a flavoring and colorant for a seasonal rice dish.

Also, there are mugworts suitable for making moxa. People differentiate mugworts by their location in China. For example, there are northern mugworts, southern mugworts and Qi mugworts. It has larger and thicker leaves than other mugworts. At the same time, it has a better and pure odor than others. The plant itself is taller than normal mugworts. Because of thicker leaves, the moxa usually has deeper color than normal moxa made with normal mugworts. The burning ash color is deeper, too.
